ABOUT US: HISTORY

The Children’s Health Alliance was formerly known as the Pediatric IPA (the Pediatric Independent Physician Association).

Private pediatricians in the Portland metropolitan community formed the IPA in 1998 to represent primary care pediatricians collectively in health plan contracting. The IPA signed its first contract with Regence HMO, effective January of 1999.

Around 2005, significant changes occurred in the health care marketplace. These resulted in changes to our members’ needs and in our vision as a group.

To that end, the IPA responded in late 2006 and early 2007 with vigorous and collaborative strategic planning, a newly outlined vision, a self-funded membership and the creation of a non-profit foundation.

The result of all this careful planning and collaboration is that the Pediatric IPA became the Children's Health Alliance. Along with the Children's Health Foundation, the Alliance focuses on Quality Improvement Initiatives while still promoting affordable excellence in patient care.
